Plus Size modeling Tips
So you want to be a model, no lets change that.. So you want to be a plus size model .. yes, the high fashion lights, the big beauty prize. Well, Lets start off with the world has changed…a little. Becoming a plus size model is a path with many ups and downs, I;m not going to candy coat it or more less tell, lie to you… but nevertheless, im no professional at this ether! Now with that said, Becoming a model is a hard path, it takes…like your mother said “Dedication and hard work!” You must learn to take rejecting head on, then get up and move to the next opportunity, as we’ll you must be wise in the game, by becoming a professional on knowing who you work with, how to get started, and if you feel you can take on the world with stride!
1. How do I get photographers to notice me?
First off its time to get your feet wet, find a professional photographer, or a really great hobbyist photographer, if you cannot afford to drop between $200 and $1000. As we’ll don’t think hobbyist photographers are not that great, check their work out just like a professional and see if they can work well with your needs and get started on making your first models portfolio book.
3. What’s a models portfolio book?
We’ll think of it as the key to the door, someway, somehow your going to need that right key to unlock all opportunities in plus size modeling. This is your first impression, to whomever your showing it to. It must have those photos that leave the jaw dropping and the eyes popping! With that said, lets add, less is more; meaning quality over quantity, you wont need a million photos to show an agency, you need those few GREAT ones to show off, as well have verity; black and white, color, etc, etc, think of advertisements, their all not the same all over but have many different colors, and shades, and plain . Mix it up a bit, and you’ll soon have a great plus size model book!
2. what type of photos should I Do first?
First thing off, don’t go off and do nudes or anything that says NSFA, not for young adults. You want to try different outfits like from Torrid.com , ChicStar.com or another of my favorites Kiyonna.com ,that flatter your body, and use different colors, patterns and so forth. Remember when you go to a photoshoot expect to be their for a few hours, so have lots of clothing changes. Try different poses, facial expressions, and have fun with it. As we’ll different backgrounds, for example outside shoots, inside natural shoots etc. I suggest doing things that are fun to mild serious look. A good reading start is ”Posing For The Camera” by Harriett Shepard and Lenore Meyer , its an older book, but still uses today’s modern ways for great photos.
3. Where do I take my photos now that their done?
Welcome to the world wide web, to set up a blog, or submit your photos to many model social sites, for example model mayhem, is a very popular place for models and photographers to share and meet each other. But remember, to do your research, don’t just hand them over to the first peoson that says, where going to make you famous! As well, look for model agency’s, theirs quiet a few plus size agences that focus just on plus size models.
Just remember that being plus size doesn’t mean the doors are shut, the world is changing, ever so slowly but heck better then 50 years ago! So go out their big girl and work that camera and OWN IT! Plus size models rock the world.
